Basque Ultra Trail Series. An Epic Mountain Challenge

The Basque Ultra Trail Series (BUTS) is a premier ultra-distance trail race series that takes place in the rugged and beautiful Basque Country of Spain. Created to challenge endurance athletes, BUTS offers runners the opportunity to traverse some of the most stunning and demanding terrains in the region, including routes such as Bilbao-Gasteiz, Iruñea-Donostia, and Donostia-Bilbao.

Inspired by the famous “Four Cathedrals March” completed by Sheve Peña in 1953, the series is a test of physical endurance and a tribute to the region’s rich cultural heritage. The courses cover distances of up to 120 kilometers, featuring steep elevation gains and a variety of terrains from rocky paths to dense forests.

The races attract elite runners as well as local participants, making it a celebrated event in the trail-running world.
